If you don’t know what percussive guitar playing is or how it works, then you NEED to watch these amazing videos! We’ve compiled a list of our top 5 favourite percussive guitar players, particularly of the acoustic variety. All 5 of these are definitely worth checking out, so make sure you watch all of them and let us know in the comments which guitarist is your favourite.

Let’s get right to it. Here is our top 5 in no particular order:

Antoine Dufour

Antoine Dufour is one of the many artists signed to Candy rat records and is a French Canadian acoustic master. I find him to be extremely creative and innovative on the guitar and his choice of techniques is endless, not too mention the precision with which he pulls it off is awe-inspiring. He studied at CEGEP in Joliette and has gone on to win numerous acoustic championships across the world. I’ll leave you here with one of my favourites:

Mike Dawes

Mike Dawes in an English acoustic genius with his first claim to fame was his composition of Gotye’s-somebody that I used to know. Mike’s compositions are packed with crazy techniques that are elegantly executed. His compositions are known for including multiple instruments in one composition and usually including bass lines and vocal melodies. Have a look at this;

Tobias Rauscher

Tobias hails from Duisburg, Germany. What I enjoy about this particular guitarist, is his moderately playable compositions. This is a guy to look into if you are serious about learning the basics and up to a more advanced level of acoustic percussive guitar. Enjoy.

Andy McKee

Andy McKee is the American OG. This guy is the sh!t! He released a song called drifting in 2006, which really open my eyes to the percussive world of acoustic guitar. Check it out here

John Gomm

John Gomm is an English singer songwriter/performer and his compositions are truly unique and a must see. Just when you thought it was crazy enough that these guys play the various instruments on their guitar, you find this guy, who sings on top of all that. John’s guitar playing is truly epic and he uses techniques and tricks that I have never seen before. Ladies and gentleman; John Gomm.
