Light Up My Lessons
If you live in South Africa, you are very aware of a glorious service proudly brought to you by the South African government called load shedding. Every person now regardless of their trade requires a solid light source. Every guitar teacher should have a basic set-up of Everyday Carry tools with them at all times. A strong and powerful source of light has now become a necessity. Having guitar lessons at home or in studio, you will be required to have the lights on all the time. Failing that then your service offering becomes very difficult to fulfil. In fact, life without any light becomes very difficult. The solution is not a R100 000 solar installation if you are needing a just a solid light source quickly.
My Phone Has A Flashlight
Why buy your own toothbrush? Your partner has a toothbrush. Just use theirs. Somethings make sense but aren’t viable for many reasons. 😉 Your smart phone battery doesn’t last long, and that is just using it everyday. Unfortunately, it won’t emit the light required as a dedicated light source can. Use the phone for calling, emailing and texting. If there is no electricity to charge your phone you may want to spare as much power for only the necessary tasks. It’s great for looking for your keys when you drop them but not for when you need a real light source solution. It is also very dim compared to a 1000 lumen pocket monster. Seeing is believing. Basic Terminology
- Lumens = Power of the light
- Candela = Intensity of the light
- Throw = How far the beam distance is
- Flood = How wide the beam is
- Neutral White = Soft natural light almost yellow mostly used in homes
- Cool White = Clear and bright white mostly used in offices
- IPX7 = Ingress protection of 7 times (water and dust proof basically)
I Don’t Want No Granny Plastic Torch
We are not talking about those old-ass plastic devices at the bottom draw that can’t spit a lumen. We are talking about a slick, slim, built like a rock, powerful tool. The Olight Arkfeld is a part-time supermodel too. Modelling portfolio below. 
A Flat Pocket Rocket
It has a very similar design to an Apple TV remote or a vape. Not the common cylinder type as we are all used to. It is very pocket friendly with it’s flat design. The colour given to us is called Desert Tan but it comes in other exotic colours. The beam is cool white which is brighter and crisp. It is not as natural to the eye as neutral white. We prefer cool white for teaching in a classroom. The box comes with everything you need including a thank you note.
The little guy is a monster when it comes to shedding light. You can light up an entire room. It looks like I switched on the lights but it is only the Arkfeld providing light here below. There are more powerful lights in the Olight range but none have the duel function like the Arkfeld. PS: I use the tennis ball to massage my feet during online lessons.
The green laser beam is an amazing tool for teachers. Point it at the board to highlight what your pupils should focus on. Sit back, relax, put your feet up, and your laser on. Zero in on renegade pupils before anarchy reaches Al-Qaeda levels. It is not overly powerful at all and safe should you accidentally point it at someone’s eyes. 🙏🏼 We are on school holidays at the moment but, will post some nice green beam shots when we return.
