2 Hand Tapping | Metal Guitar Lesson

This is a 2 hand tapping line using 5 fingers – 3 of your fretting hand and 2 of your picking/tapping hand. It’s in the key of E Minor and in the style of Progressive Metal bands such as The Contortionist and Animals As Leaders.

There are two main things to focus on, in order to master this lick as quickly as possible:

1. Assign each finger to one string, and have that finger dedicated to only playing that specific string. When you start learning this lick slowly in the beginning, make sure to pay close attention to which fingers you’re using for each string, and stick to those fingers!

2. This lick has a complicated pattern that repeats and moves along the fret board. Once you get the hang of the pattern, the rest of the movements will come more easily so focus on mastering ONLY the first bar in the beginning, then move on to the rest of the lick afterwards.

Sticking Points:

  • Start at a low tempo and gradually increase the tempo as you get more comfortable with the lick
  • Pay close attention to the correct fingering
  • Make sure the tapping for each finger is clear and precise
